Dear Friends, Family and Supporters,

Several months ago, I reached out to my friends and supporters to help me make it through until my friends could organize a benefit concert. I am so grateful. I require 24/7 caregiving as well as health expenses which are not covered by insurance. Every year I have to raise about $1,500 for every month of the year to remain out of a Medicaid nursing home.

On Saturday, November 17th, 2012 there will be the “6th annual benefit concert for Dr Craig.” Please see the enclosed flyer for details for this extravaganza benefit concert with excellent musicians, a game room, the premiere of my new inspirational videos, a magician doing magic, remarkable loving people with whom to visit, and possibly a surprise or two!

I am prayerful that the event will raise enough money for my special needs trust to meet my basic needs for a good number of months. I am not having the huge annual benefit concert in Lansing this fall, because I have been using most of my time to continue to build THE HEALERS holistic medical research and educational campaign. My goal is to use my life as an 18 year ALS survivor to inspire great numbers of people, advance ALS holistic scientific research, and to earn enough money to support myself with all of my 24/7 caregiving and other health expenses. In the meantime, I humbly must reach out to ask for some help from my friends, family and supporters to get by.

I am hopeful that all the work I am doing for free to help the world will eventually pay off to reach the above goal of taking care of myself. Like the metaphorical turtle, I persist in typing on an online virtual keyboard with one finger on a mouse most of my time awake. Sometimes, the pace is maddeningly and frustratingly slow; my spirit felt more at home in the body of a marathon running body builder. Yet, I feel that I must give everything I can with my life to serve humanity, and for the time being to surrender to my life as a single-legged turtle. Growing numbers of people from around the world tell me that I am touching their lives. That makes what I must endure every day more meaningful, and my frustrations somewhat less looming.

I am forward looking in using my time to make the greatest possible positive difference in the world with the gift of my life. PBS is in the middle of filming, to feature me in an episode of their series A Wider World. I am leading THE HEALERS Campaign, with over 60 advisors most of whom are renowned. Dr Francesco Pagnini, from Milan, Italy, and I will soon be publishing THE HEALERS Campaign’s 1st scientific research study, “Hate, Resentment and Hope in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis”, in the scientific journal Frontiers in Psychology. Dr Pagnini and I are planning on writing another scientific paper about dietary factors in ALS, based upon data that we have already collected. So far, I have done all of this work without financial compensation, yet I am determined to find a way to find support for my dedicated efforts so I don’t have to have fundraisers to cover my basic needs.

Some of my THE HEALERS advisory team members were so impressed with my vision of a THE HEALERS television series that they paid a producer to come to Michigan in May and capture enough film to create some sizzle reels for THE HEALERS television series idea. We plan on showing some of these at the benefit concert. Some Hollywood studios have expressed interest in THE HEALERS, but so far all have had one or another reason for not taking on the show. Some said the timing wasn’t right and others said that the show was too political with what we want to say about food being medicine. We are going to wait awhile and see if the climate changes in Hollywood.

I hope that you will come to my November 17th benefit concert to celebrate life with me to help me continue to live in my own apartment and not in a nursing home, as I continue to do everything possible to help others and work to find a way to take care of myself.

Gratefully yours,

Craig Oster, AKA Dr Craig
