When I set out to develop my advisory team of leaders in holistic healing for THE HEALERS campaign, I wanted to include on my team two individuals who had been given the ALS diagnosis and remarkably reversed major losses in functioning: Rev. Dr. Evy McDonald from New York, and Steven Shackel from Australia. I am happy to say that I persisted in contacting each of them over a period of several weeks, until I was successful in having them join my team. I read about Rev. Dr. Evy’s healing in a Dr. Bernie Siegel book early in my healing journey, and learned about Steven Shackel’s healing with ALS from his international award winning ALS website.
Both of these incredible individuals have conducted scientific research pertaining to ALS and have inspired hope and direction for many people with ALS. Rev. Dr. Evy will be the topic of a later article. Below, are some words that Steven Shackel wanted to share with THE HEALERS campaign audience:
“After watching Dr. Craig’s YouTube video I was inspired to do something that nobody else has managed to convince me to do in nearly 20 years and that is to transcribe my website into a book and include more of my “personal story/struggle” and that seemingly sempiternal, desperate, uphill journey back to mobility. When I started to improve it happened surprisingly rapidly. Other long term PALS that either improved or simply survived have often said the same thing.
“Something very “unusual” happened in my case. I experienced a physical, full-body-tingle and within a week could walk to and from our mailbox unaided (down/up a flight of stairs then 100 yards up/down a steep hill). I don’t know what miracles are supposed to feel like but it certainly felt miraculous in a very physical sense – and I’m not talking about the overwhelming sense of achievement at being able to walk after nearly two years of near total immobility. If an angelic chorus and trumpets had sounded it would not have seemed out of place. That is not to say that I had been sitting back and doing nothing to help myself but the turning point in my case was decidedly revelatory.
“This is not about me but rather about the inspiration I experienced from ALS success stories, notably Evy McDonald’s at that time. Now the inspiration is from Craig. Simply knowing that the “two to five years” you are told you have remaining are outlived by some PALS may prevent some from simply giving up. The PALS listed at “The Over Five Club” (see: http://home.pacbell.net/ranger-1/%20 ) have all outlived their “use by” date. There are several hundred of them. The most common similar attribute of those PALS? A positive mental attitude! Anything that helps PALS take a step toward a positive mental attitude, any inspiration, any hope in any form is surely a wonderful gift. Be well and happy! Steve”
Thank you, Steven. I am so grateful to have you in my life as an advisor and friend. I have had two physical transformative experiences that felt miraculous, like Steven described. Each occurred over the duration of weeks and was mind-blowing and I thought I was home free. Although the miraculous pace of healing did not remain, I am blessed to know that such healing could happen at any moment.
It is my prayer that having three of us on THE HEALERS campaign who have had major healing experiences with ALS, will help to inspire people with serious health challenges to be motivated to do intensive healing work. THE HEALERS campaign also has advisors who have healed their own lung cancer, brain cancer, progressive secondary multiple sclerosis, and more. Add to this the great numbers of so-called hopeless cases who have experienced healing with the help of many of my internationally renowned holistic health expert advisory team members, and you have a campaign team unlike any I have ever before seen. We hope that you will become a part of our community and we always welcome your comments.
